I visited Virlantis Island last week.
Classroom
Chating area
I went in after class finished.
I would like to experience how it would be like to learn English in SL environment.
I did learn to be familiar with using Second Life program for learning English.
I then continued to read article on SL reading.
Integrating Second Life into an English as a Foreing Language (EFL) Program: Student's Perspective focuses on how Chinese students evaluate an EFL Program in Second Life (SL). This article concludes that the Chinese students were ready to use SL for EFL learning which is useful and interesting language learning platform. Although, s/he faced technical problem of poor audio during the chat, s/he liked the program and would like to have more learning oppotunity in SL in his/her future study.
Having said that, I can see the potential of second life to an area of English as a foreign language learning. This learning platform creates relaxed and free learning environment. Learners are confident when making English convesation because his/her partner cannot see his/her face. It is real English and everyday English because s/he can learn by talking with other English speaking people. SL gives Foreing language learners such as English learners a place to practice speaking with a free and relaxed environment. However, my concern is that how many people can affort to establish SL learning envirnment. I wish we could have a cheaper and faster computer to run SL program. This will have a big impact on SL in an area of English as a foreing language learning.
See you
